I could never imagine a book about checklists being exciting enough to keep my interest…
But I’ve got the say, Atul Gawande has put an immense amount of thought, effort & amazing facts into his 📚 ‘The Checklist Manifesto’. Making it hard to put down.
Atul is an American surgeon, best-selling writer, public health researcher & practices general and endocrine surgery in Boston, Massachusetts.
And has found a simple remedy to help the experts master the challenges they face in a world of great complexity. The humble checklist.
You may scoff & think a checklist can’t help the top surgeons or skyscraper construction. That’s been part of the problem. Some people think a humble checklist is beneath them.
Atul takes you on a journey, detailing the difficulties he’s had, getting wide-spread adoption of the checklist in healthcare.
After much perseverance & working with the World Health Organisation. They have proved the humble checklist can massively improve results & drastically reduce death rates.
Atul takes his research into fields well beyond healthcare. Like investment banking, disaster recovery & construction. Firmly believing that checklists can have a major influence on most organisations.
Honestly. I thought I’d be bored. But this couldn’t be further from the truth. The way Atul tells his stories is quite mesmerising & it’s a given me a whole new perspective on things.
Checklists. No matter how simple. Are an easy way for anyone to take back control of complex situations & we should all use them.
‘The Checklist Manifesto’ gets a 👍 & ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
