A dream has turned into reality for all of us…
The most amazing thing happened on Friday. Pete (in the picture) & Paula Newton nominated their 8-acre field to be used as our prime tree planting location for our plant a tree campaign.
Pete & Paula have owned a small holding (not actually that small anymore) on the Shawforth hills in the Rossendale Valley for 15 years.
As well as trying to renovate the old farm buildings, they’re also growing an electrical & electronic control system design business called Newton Integration Services.
You see. When Pete was younger. He had a dream. The dream was to live in a secluded house in the country surrounded by 1,000’s of trees.
When they bought the small holding it had about 7 acres (including a mature wood). Since, they’ve secured a further 2 fields, amounting to another 13 acres (not that small anymore).
Pete’s dream was still burning & last year (with the help of the Woodland Trust & the local Scouts) they planted a 5-acre field with trees raising £2,500 towards the Scouts jamboree in the States.
This still left Pete & Paula an 8-acre field to fill. But with the farm building renovation & business needing ever more of their time. It’s proving very difficult for them to complete the dream.
Sometimes though, you’ve just to be in the right place at the right time & the stars can align. Paula caught our climate change tree planting campaign on social media & reached out.
It’s a win win for all parties involved. Pete finally realises his dream. Paula can concentrate on finishing the house renovation & we have a field for planting our customers trees.
Scientists say planting billions of trees is by far the biggest & cheapest way to tackle the climate crisis. As trees grow, they absorb & store the carbon dioxide emissions that’s driving global heating.
Research by these scientists estimate a global planting program could remove 2/3 of all emissions pumped into the atmosphere by human activities. Figures scientists describe as “mind-blowing”.
Epic adventurer Simon Reeve agrees too. In episode 3 of his series ‘The Americas’. Simon met David Milarch from the Archangel Ancient Tree Archive. Who’s working towards replanting the earth with giant Redwood trees to fight climate change.
These are the reasons why we’ve decided to plant loads of trees. But we’re not going to do it alone. Our customers are going to help too.
