Marvel films may never have happened. Back in 1961. Like in the latest Avengers movie (End Game). Stan Lee was forced to make most of his team extinct.
The company (then called Timely Comics) was on its last legs. And Stan Lee was on the verge of quitting. Only his wife managed to talk him down.
DC had just put together a cast of 7 superheroes (Superman, Batman, Wonder Women, The Flash, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter & Aquaman) to form the Justice League with great success.
And Stan Lee was tasked to do the same by his boss to save the company. But Stan knew doing the same thing as DC just wouldn’t work.
Instead of quitting Stan worked tirelessly. And created a group of 4 unlikely bickering heroes. Hell 1 was even thuggish with a very questionable personality.
It was the creation of the Fantastic 4 that saved the company. Marvel was born & the public warmed to the life-like heroes with questionable personalities Stan Lee created.
Hitting on a winning formula Stan invented more everyday heroes. A moody outcast kid became Spiderman. A scientist exposed to radiation transforms into the Hulk & a play boy arms dealer turns good to become Ironman.
Not wanting to stand still & knowing comics alone will not secure Marvels future. Lee turbocharged the business by transforming the comic book heroes into movies. The rest is history.
This shows businesses of all types can’t afford to become complacent. We must always be on the look-out for changes in our chosen market place. Which could affect the future of the organisation.
Like Marvel & Stan Lee. A few years back we might have quit too. We had a network of stores selling printer consumables. But the internet & super supermarkets changed our everything.
Luckily. We had the time to change too & now provide affordable monthly technology solutions (printers, photocopiers & telephones) that help small & medium organisations gain certainty of cost.
Our advice. Is to keep close tabs on your marketplace & be flexible enough to change course at a moment’s notice. If you see things happening that might affect your organisations future.
