Look back 100 years and ask yourself…

How many of today’s industries were still pretty much unknown?

• Henry Ford had just begun making the automobile an affordable family vehicle.
• In 1914 the world’s first scheduled passenger airline took off between St. Petersburg and Tampa.
• Widespread radio broadcasting didn’t happen until 1920, paving the way for the record industry.

Now turn the clock back just 40 years, when 100’s of billion-pound industries sprung up…

• In 1973 the first mobile phone was made by Motorola.
• Followed by (in 1979) the first 1G commercial automated mobile network in Japan.
• Then in April 1981, the Osborne 1 was recognised as the first true laptop computer.
• The first commercial laser printer was released by IBM in 1976, although it was huge.
• And it took until 1979 before Canon released the first affordable desktop laser printer.

Today, we’ve got office technology on subscriptions, electric cars, electric vehicle chargers, solar & wind power, and soon autonomous vehicles, with Google‘s Waymo, Ford backed Argo AI & General Motors leading the way.

Now put the clock forward 20 or 30 years. How many ‘now unknown’ industries will likely exist?

No matter your industry, they’ll always be opportunities.
