The subtle art of resilience…
resilience

On November 4th, 2018 Ross Edgley became the 1st person in history to swim around Great Britain.

Not sure if you know?

Great Britain is the world’s 9th largest island, and it’s a huge 1,791 miles around it’s circumference.

So what did Ross learn?

According to his book ‘The Art of Resilience’ Ross was searching for the answer to this question, during and after the swim.

Eventually concluding resilience is not some superhuman gift that is possessed by the brave and bold. It’s innate in all of us but is only realised through stress and stimuli.

And through sheer will & resilience, anything is possible (including swimming around Great Britain and building a successful business). Resilience is knowing when not to quit.

Just to put this monumental feat into perspective…

Ross swam for 12 hours a day in 6-hour intervals, eating & sleeping in between, and never missing a day due to injury or fatigue.

And when I said ate. He was shoveling (literally) up to 15,000 calories of food into his mouth each day, sometimes even sleeping with a cooked chicken on his pillow.

Along the way, he had to combat 100 mph winds, world pools, massive cargo ships, giant stinging jellyfish, whales, sharks, seals, and swimming in his own sick.

Here are the unbelievable statistics from his great British swim:

  • 157 days at sea
  • 1,791 miles swam (like crossing the English-channel 85 times)
  • Zero sick days
  • Over 1 million calories consumed
  • 649 bananas eaten
  • Over 100 giant jellyfish stings
  • Strongest winds encountered, 105mph
  • 1st person to swim around Great Britain
  • 1st Person to swim around Scotland
  • Halved the Lands End to John O’Groats swimming record

This book represents a paradigm shift in what we thought was humanly possible, and provides a blueprint for becoming more resilient, to overcome the challenges you face in business & life.

It’s a stoic read. ‘The Art of Resilience’ gets a 👍 & ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
