Is this the time where we should all buy local?
I think so…
I’ve just read a couple of reports about Amazon, which makes me sad. Their shares & sales have jumped as many people have switched to buying online rather than buy local to support local business.
It’s not Amazon’s fault and I understand given the circumstances online shopping (for all kinds of products) is going to explode.
But it’s our local business community (including local workers) who are going to suffer, as people stop social interaction. Which will include (in many cases) no physical shopping.
For me. The local business community has an opportunity to step up their game to get people to buy local.
Let me give you an example…
When growing up in Haslingden. At the bottom of our street was a corner shop called Kirby’s. It sold groceries (among other things).
But it wasn’t like today’s self-serve shops. Yes you could go in and buy stuff. But most called in with their shopping list on a Monday & Mr Kirby delivered it on a Saturday.
It sounds daft. But I think the local business community needs to go full circle. Finding a way to take phone or online orders, which they deliver direct to homes or business the very next day.
You don’t need fancy e-commerce systems for it to work either. You only need a phone and the right card payment system. Although a good e-commerce system can help.
The key is getting the message out. Which can be done on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter & Instagram or by spending a day or 2 posting leaflets through doors in your local community.
We made all our solutions available online. Delivering printing technology, printer cartridges, laptops, PC’s, stationery, tea & coffee and even toilet rolls throughout Lancashire & Greater Manchester daily.
Our customers order online, by email, via Facebook Linkedin Twitter Instagram or call us directly on 0800 1833800 and their products are delivered the very next day (sometimes same day). Without the need to leave home or work.
…is it time for your business to go full circle & get people to buy local again?
