Whilst delivering we dropped in to see how our mental health charity partner Shiva Trust, were getting on with the latest 1,000 tree planting.
We found Anand and the team planting trees knee deep in mud, during a Rossendalian downpour.
Anand told me:
“These 2 paddocks had our pigs in them, but we’re moving them to a bigger area, in the meantime (until their new home is ready) we’ve temporarily re-homed them in our large barn.”
“Allowing us to use these paddocks for planting. We’re putting 500 in each for a year or 2, and when they’re a little more established, we’ll spread them around our 26 acres to support the wildlife.”
Anand then showed me the landscaping work they’ve been doing and the creation of 2 new ponds.
Anand continued:
“The Rossendale Way (walking route) goes right through our land, so we’re putting in plenty of recycled benches for the walkers to rest their weary feet, whilst taking in the surroundings.”
They’re also in the early stages of raising money to build a poly tunnel to support their social farming ethos, which will benefit children and young people on the margins of society. If you’re able to help, you can donate at: https://www.avivacommunityfund.co.uk/ahimsa-polytunnel
