According to Epson’s first European sustainability report (The Green Choice) inkjet printing could save UK organisations up to £30 million on their energy bills, and save over 75 million KG’s in CO2 over a 4 year period.
How is that possible?
Quite simple really. Switch from using laser printing technology to inkjet printing technology. Yes I was shocked too…
These environmental and financial benefits for UK organisations have been independently verified by TUV Rheinland, were derived from the total business inkjet units sold in 2016 & 2017 and the anticipated savings of the printers over 4 years.
These gains are due to the advances made in inkjet printing technology, which uses up to 96 per cent less energy, produces up to 92 per cent less CO2 and achieves up to 99 per cent less waste than laser technology.
Lets be clear though. Organisations need a printing solution which is fit for their own purpose, and although inkjet printing technology may be fit for some organisations, it won’t be right for others.
I’m not sure it you know the difference?
Inkjet technology uses ink, which is placed onto the page in tiny droplets. And when using standard office paper, will give you a slightly dull feathered finish. Although they will produce very sharp photo quality pictures and documents when more expensive specialist papers are used.
Laser technology uses toner, which is fused on top of the page with a very hot heating element. And will give you a sharp bright shimmering finish, no matter the quality of the paper. Although a high quality paper will give a better quality print.
Laser technology has been typically more expensive than inkjet technology, which is why you tend to find smaller organisations will invest in inkjet technology to keep their perceived costs down. But for a business that prints or copies a reasonable amount, laser technology has been much cheaper in the long term. The cost for each printed page is much lower than that of a typical inkjet.
Although, in light of this new research carried out by Epson, maybe the tied is turning and it’s time for UK organisations to adopt more inkjet technologies?
Today, not only can organisations save on their energy costs and their CO2 usage. Organisations can now save on their total print costs when adopting inkjet technology rather than laser technology.
A new small organisation managed print service (MY Print Service) based on inkjet technology has been developed, which is around 75% cheaper than the most cost effective laser print technology. And for those organisations where the finish of inkjet technology is more than adequate, who would also like to save on their energy bills and reduce their CO2, this could be for you.
But for those organisation who require the finish provided by laser technology, and are not going to receive the energy or CO2 savings. Why not take a look at a managed print service, which will provide and maintain the laser technology for free and charge you an affordable fixed monthly fee or a small fixed charge for each page you print.
You can get either desktop laser printer technology or feature rich floor standing photocopier technology on these such agreements. And gain guaranteed certainty of service & support, together with certainty of your total print cost.
