For years I’ve wanted to understand the journey that Phil Knight undertook to establish NIKE, as the world’s leading sports shoe & apparel company.

Shoe Dog is not any old business book. It’s Phil Knights very own words & memories from realising his dream of bringing Japanese running shoes to America to creating NIKE & overtaking Adidas.

It reads & flows like a novel. If you didn’t know NIKE was real. You’d never believe the challenges & hurdles Phil & his team have overcome to make the dream a reality. He’s a great storyteller.

As a business owner myself. I can honestly say it’s a true reminder of what the path to business success really looks like. It’s an amazing tale of guts & perseverance. And not for the faint hearted.

It’s filled with episodes of financial, operational & emotional struggles. Detailing how Phil & his team had to be extremely creative to continuously provide solutions to keep the organisation in existence.

Now knowing the full & true story. I’m amazed Phil achieved his dream. NIKE is the leading global sports brand by some distance. With revenues of $36 billion in 2018. $12 billion more than adidas.

If you have a dream of growing a national or even global organisation. Or you just want to understand the stages that the team at NIKE had to go through as they grew. It’s a must read.

For me. It’s the best book I’ve read so far this year. With an amazing amount of learnings. If you’re going to read just 1 business book this year. It must be this 1.

But if you struggle to read business books. Treat this 1 like a novel & take it on holiday with you. Trust me. It will grip you. You won’t believe the situations that Phil & his team come up against.
