Having the right team is vitally important to business success…
During our business transformation back in 2015, we lost some team members, because they were no longer the right fit and didn’t want to change.
We moved from a reactional retail model to a proactive B2B model. We help customers choose the right office technology & supplies, through Simple Honest Service.
It was too much for some & we had to find with people who shared our new values, and who’s personalities would work well with our existing team members.
Finding people who are the right fit is difficult. Personally, we liken people to icebergs.
Only 10% of icebergs sticks out of the water. The other 90% you can’t see & sits well below the water line.
It’s similar with people. The stuff you can see & hear adds up to around 10% of their identity. The other 90% is hidden somewhere deep inside.
One of the hardest things to do. Is to try & change a person’s identity. Especially if they don’t want to change themselves.
Our business transformation took some of our team way out of their comfort zone, forcing them to make a choice.
Do I want to change or not?
Some did and some didn’t.
Since then, when recruiting, we get to know the 90% you can’t see. Making sure values match & personalities will work well with the existing team.
Team members rowing in the opposite direction can’t be good for business.
…can it?
