Toxic flatulence and penis enlargement operations aside this is a great book…
Richard Fenning spent 14 years as CEO of Control Risks, which is a global consultancy that specialises in helping businesses out of tight spots in difficult countries.
In total Fenning has 30-years of experience in a world where politics and business meet.
His book ‘What on Earth can go Wrong’ is a montage of the many strange situations Fenning encountered, whilst operating in the deep recesses of the risk and security industry.
Fenning’s job was to help international companies stay safe, and when it was not possible to dodge out of the way he had to do whatever was necessary to keep the ship afloat and the show on the road.
The book takes you on a rollercoaster ride from to back streets of Rio and Delhi, to Bogota and Baghdad, Moscow, and Nairobi, onto Lagos, then Tokyo, Shanghai, and Washington.
Some of the situations Fenning finds himself dealing with is quite amazing and unbelievable, as he manages to make light of them, find a way out and make you laugh out loud doing so.
Fenning is clear though, he’s no superhero and details the book is about setting forth, becoming a tiny bit braver, and learning to distinguish what to fear and what not.
As a business leader myself this really resonates with me, as no matter what industry you’re involved with you must be brave and take calculated risks to move the business forward.
Listen, even if you’re not a leader, this is a great read and will make you laugh out loud.
‘What on Earth can go Wrong’ gets a thumbs up & 5 stars.
