Yes. It’s time to break out the coping strategies again…
It feels like we’re pinned in a continuous revolving door. Or wedged in a washing machine stuck on spin. Or even riding a never ending helter skelter.
Turns out (as well as being a fairground ride & a kick ass Beatles song) helter skelter means confusion, disorder, lack of a plan or doing something in a haphazard manner.
Ain’t that the truth!
Thankfully, there are many different coping strategies to help. Some adaptive (good). But others maladaptive (not so good).
Here’s some adaptive examples you can use:
- Relaxation
- Humour
- Talking to others to release motions
- Exercise
- Getting social support
- Changing perspectives on problems
- Helping others in greater need
And here’s some maladaptive ones (easy to do) but best avoided:
- Aggressive behaviour
- Blaming & moaning about others
- Overeating
- Chain smoking
- Excessive use of alcohol
- Turning to hard drugs
As a caring and responsible person, I’ll be helping our office technology solutions team cope & relax, with a bit of workplace chat, humour and maybe even a spot of yoga.
…what will you be doing to help your team carry on coping?
