Gooday. It’s Friday & it’s business book review time…
Today’s book ‘Tribal Leadership’ was co-written by Dave Logan, John King & Halee Fischer-Wright of CultureSync. An organisation that specialises in strategy, cultural design & high performance.
The book centres on tribes. Saying that all organisations have at least 1 tribe & the larger one’s will have a network of them.
Proving that tribes can be more powerful than teams, companies, or even CEO’s. But no one has worked out how to leverage them properly.
The book shows how to assess an organisations tribal culture on a scale of 1 to 5. And then provides tools to help you elevate whatever stage you’re at on to the next level.
It’s all backed up with loads of data & facts. The authors conducted a rigorous 8-year study spanning 24,000 people across 24 large organisations.
They found the success of a company depends on its tribes & the strength of an organisation’s tribe is determined by the tribal culture. And a thriving culture can be established by an effective leader.
By studying how teams interact socially, the authors outline common patterns of success, why they work and how they can be developed. Showing you how to employ your own tribe to maximise productivity & profit.
Apparently, Zappos founder Tony Hsieh, credits it for some of his success. Saying ‘it’s a great aid for managers & entrepreneurs that want to build teams and cultures with a transformative impact’.
Personally, I found it a good book, although a little hard to follow & I had to really concentrate to make sure the information sunk in. But maybe that’s just me.
I’d say the book is suited for leaders of organisations & leaders of departments who want to learn how to identify, improve & get the best out of their tribes to boast the organisations performance.
‘Tribal Leadership’ gets a thumbs up & 4 stars.
