All hail ‘The Rise of Superman’….
No. Not that Superman!
I mean the electrifying book written by Steven Kotler, detailing how people use ‘flow’ to make, what seems the impossible possible, and becoming kinda superhuman in the process.
Flow is a state of mind where you’re so focused on achieving one task, everything else disappears around you. Whilst in this trace like state, people can pull off the most amazing feats.
Like jumping the widest part of the great wall of China on a skateboard with a broken ankle, or wing-suit flying in formation through the skyscrapers in Chicago.
The book mainly focuses on extreme sports, like rock climbing, free diving, surfing, base jumping, wing-suit flying, extreme skiing and ultimate skateboarding.
And proves how the leaders in these fields are pushing the boundaries of what’s humanly possible, through their knowledge and control of flow.
It’s jammed packed full of true stories from all over the world, where people are performing the most amazing feats with fearless attitudes.
In the business world little is known about flow and it’s impacts, but it’s certainly a state of mind that (I believe) could help people manage high stressful situations.
If you’ve ever lost an afternoon to a great conversation or got so involved in a work project that the time simply disappears. Then you’ve tasted the experience.
In flow, every action, each decision, leads effortlessly to the next. Its high-speed problem solving where your performance heads high up into the stratosphere.
Flow is an optimal state of consciousness. A peak state where we feel at and perform at our best.
It’s certainly opened my eyes, and it’s a book everyone on the planet needs to read.
