Good day. Are you ready for this week’s business book review?

We’re going to take a trip back to the future with a book called ‘The Ethics of Invention’ written by Sheila Jasanoff.

Sheila is Professor of Science & Technology Studies at the Harvard Kennedy School. And is seen as a pioneer in this field, being the author, or editor of more than 15 books on the subject.

This book takes a deep look into how technology rules us. Starting way back in history, looking at some of the human suffering that a reliance on technologies has caused.

Before taking us through the decades and bringing you up to be speed on how some of the latest technologies may ethically (rightly or wrongly) impact our business and personal lives.

Sheila clearly knows her stuff, and the book has masses of examples where technology has caused more harm than good, with a warning about the perils and the promises of future technologies.

It’s a very interesting read and I’ve learnt loads of new information, which I didn’t know. Some useful and some not so useful. But more than anything, it’s a book that makes you think.

Although, there’s so much information to absorb it became a little difficult to read, so I had to have a couple of rests, rather than try and take it all in at once.

Certainly, anyone interested in how technology has and is shaping the world (good and bad), will find this a very interesting read.
