The situation

Colne based West Riding Hyundai are specialists in the sale and service of Hyundai cars, which is a very competitive business sector. Making it vitally important that they keep good control of their operational costs, which enables them to keep competitive in their market place.

Across their dealership, they had several Lexmark colour laser printers, in sales, service, parts and finance. Which were costing them over £8,000 each year in cartridges alone.

Customer objective

Managing Director, Nick Wright said. “Over the years as we have become busier with a need to print more customer documents. And we thought our printing costs had gotten a little out of control. Add to that, our colour laser printers where getting quite old and really needed replacing, at an additional cost that was not in our budget. Our objective was quite clear. Reduce our costs, whilst providing up to date more feature rich equipment, within the same (much reduced) cost budget”.

Our solution

In the first instance, we identified that the service desk did the most printing and required an increase in printer size and technology. This would allow the service team to print and copy all day in both colour and mono for less cost. We would also implement a scan to file and email functionality, which would save them loads of time and make their daily activities much slicker and quicker.

But the other departments printed no-where near as much and didn’t need technology on such a scale, as the service desk. They needed smaller colour multi-function business printers (but with enhanced features), which would be cheaper to run than their existing Lexmark colour laser printers.

In this situation, we couldn’t reduce the number of printers required, as each department is in different areas of the building. In the service department we increased the size and technology of the printer by installing the latest Konica Minolta photocopier. And in the other departments, we reduced the size of the technology (but increased the features) by installing several of our Infinity business multi-function printers.

Financial and operational result

Financially, West Riding Hyundai (Colne) are saving over £5,000 each year against their existing Lexmark colour laser printers. Which is around a 65% saving. And as an added benefit, we have also managed to flat line their costs, in to one low money fee, making budgeting much better and easing their cash flow.

Operationally, things have got much better too. The service team are very pleased with their new scan to folder and email functionality, and with the extra paper tray volume that the new Konica Minolta photocopier provides. And even though the multi-function printers in the other departments are smaller, the rest of the team are happier too, as they have been provided with extra functions, like duplex printing & scanning, along with being able to print direct from their smart devices too.
