Did you know Kelloggs cornflakes were invented by accident?
Straight up. One afternoon in 1894 Dr John Harvey Kellogg and his brother Will Keith Kellogg were attempting to make granola.
Absent-mindedly they left the wheat to dry out. Then pressed the stale grains anyway and produced the first ever batch of crispy cereal flakes.
Keith Kellogg decided to mass market the creation in 1906. He swapped corn for wheat and adding malt sugar to make the flakes tastier.
Then in 1968, scientist Dr Spencer Silver was looking to develop an ultra-strong adhesive for 3M. But accidently invented a low-tack, reusable pressure-sensitive glue instead.
He struggled to find a suitable application for the low-tack adhesive until 1974, when his 3M colleague Art Fry suggested it could be used to create the much loved Post It Note.
And in 1946, Pietro Ferrero wanted to create an affordable chocolate confection, but cocoa beans were in serious short supply and expensive. So, he used hazelnuts instead
During the hot summer of 1949, a batch of his affordable chocolate bars melted. And by accident it made it taste creamier and even more delicious. Which famously became known as Nutella.
Lot’s of great products where born through accidents.
Our MOT testing station laptop subscription service was provided to a home user by accident, who loved it, and since, we’ve bundled it with Microsoft 365 to create a home working laptop solution.
…sadly, it’s not all good news. I was the third child and an accident too!
