Gosh it’s come around quick this week. It’s business 📚 review time…
This week I’ve read a classic. 1st written in 1984 when it was a national bestseller.
Since then ‘Influence’ by Dr Robert Cialdini has been revised a couple of times to bring it up to date.
Dr Cialdini spent his entire career researching the science of influence earning an international reputation as an expert in the fields of persuasion, compliance & negotiation. He’s also a Professor at Arizona State University.
Because of the world-wide recognition of his cutting-edge scientific research and his ethical business and policy applications. Dr Cialdini is frequently regarded to as the ‘Godfather of influence.’
The 📚 explains the psychology of persuasion & uses loads of case studies to show how a host of different persuasion techniques (some deliberate & others not) can cause a situation to have different outcomes.
Through his research Dr Cialdini has discovered there are 6 universal principles which can move people to change their minds. Dr Cialdini explains how to use them to persuade & also how to use them fend off persuaders.
The skills learned from this 📚 can be used in all walks of life & not just for business. Yes you can use them to influence sales & marketing. But you can also use them to help you with relationships, children & friendships.
I can’t stress how much information has been packed into this 📚 & I’ve no doubt its all valuable & useful. But personally. I feel there’s just too much & it could easily be shortened giving the same learnings & results.
That being said. If you can stick with it. There’s a mass of useful ideas & techniques. Which you can easily adopt into your everyday life. Both business & personal. There’s no doubt Dr Cialdini knows his subject matter.
Influence gets a 👍. But some will be put off by the shear amount of information. So it loses ⭐. Its ⭐⭐⭐⭐ from me.
