Is it the end of traditional marketing?
Carlos Gil certainly thinks so, as explained in his 2020 book ‘The End of Marketing’.
It’s an interesting read, with a core message of creating personal brands to market your organisation across social media platforms.
Gil believes not only is traditional marketing dead, brand-marketing is also on the slide too.
What do I mean by this?
Well, Gil believes using social media brand accounts to market your business is no longer a viable option, as consumers are much more social savvy.
When social media was in its infancy it was easy for brands to attract followers, as it was fresh, new, and exciting.
These days using social media to market a new business is tough, as consumers are much more educated and are not easily swayed to follow brands anymore.
Consumers want to see the people behind the brand, and not just the people in charge.
They want to engage the team behind the brand and understand what makes them tick, how they interact with each other, life behind the brand if you like.
Gil also covers AI and the impact he believes it will have on social media marketing, citing the bots are not quote there yet, but in a few years they will be.
Building a personal brand is something I really believe in and which I’m trying to achieve to help market our office solutions business and EV charging installation company.
‘The End of Marketing’ gets a thumbs up and 5 stars.
