Gooday. Need cheering up with a business book review?
Liz Wiseman is a former Oracle executive who now advisors & teaches leaders around the world, being named 1 of the top 10 leadership thinkers in the world.
In 2010 after the global financial crisis Liz wrote Wall Street bestseller ‘Multipliers’ and has since released an updated version in 2017.
The original 📚 hit a chord on the back of the global recession. Organisations had to find new ways to grow in much constrained circumstances. Pretty much getting more out of less resource.
To achieve these results, leaders had to change how they led. I’m not just talking about leaders at the very top. I’m taking about leaders at every level within an organisation.
You see, many leader’s pre-global recession, were what Liz terms Diminishers. They took total control, not letting their teams think for themselves or do anything without their say so.
Post-recession resources were scarce & the situation required leaders who had the ability to get much more out of their teams. Liz terms these people Multipliers.
Multipliers build teams with people they can trust to get the job done. People who are self-managing and able to make the right informed critical decisions for the business.
The revised 2017 version covers a further 6 years of research interviewing 100’s more executives & found managers globally we’re still only extracting 66% of capability from their resources.
The 📚 goes deep & peels back many layers of the onion, getting right down into the core of the issue. It takes some reading, but I really enjoyed it & learned a lot.
Given that we’re in the middle of 🌍 pandemic, which is likely to change the face of business forever, just like the global recession did. It’s probably a good choice of book to read at this time.
Being a multiplier has probably never been more critical in the 🌍 than right now. If you’re a business or organisation leader, divisional leader or team manager, go get a copy of this 📚.
‘Multipliers’ gets a 👍 & ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
