It seems, the digital revolution took much longer to unfold than the industrial revolution…
How do we know?
Because author and business professional Walter Isaacson wrote a book called ‘The Innovators,’ which details the first dabbling in computing right through the decades to the present day.
It’s amazing to think people (who had brilliant minds) were thinking far into the future and trying to build technology stuff way back in the 1900’s.
Interestingly the first personal microcomputer (the Altair 8800) didn’t appear until 1974, with Bill Gates and Paul Allen launching themselves to the world by writing the operating software.
It’s amazing to think they were going to call themselves Gates & Allen, but at the last minute decided they sounded like a solicitor, or an accountant and it was too boring.
So, after deliberation and thinking hard about what they provided ‘software for personal microcomputers,’ they put the two together and Microsoft was born. The rest is history.
If you’re a tech geek this walk-through history will be right up your street, as it was for me.
But for others not interested in the subject, it will be tedious, long, and boring.
For me personally ‘The Innovators’ gets a thumbs up with four stars, but you may think differently.
