Good day. This week I’m reviewing a business classic. Michael Gerber’s ‘The E Myth Revisited’.
It was written some 15 years later than his original book ‘The E Myth’. The original book sold over 1 million copies. But raised many unanswered questions. That Michael answers in this revised version.
For those that don’t know. The E-Myth is the flawed assumption that people who are experts at a certain technical skill will be successful running a business that does that same technical work.
The E Myth Revisited directly answers why (in most situations) this is not the case. But not in a complicated way. In a very simple way that even I can understand & follow.
Michael’s been very clever. Creating a character (Sarah) who owns a pie shop. But has lost her way. Forgetting why she started the business & letting the dreams she had fade away.
Sarah meets a coach (I’m assuming Michael). They discuss the future, the past, the present to rekindle Sarah’s passion & awaken her dreams.
As the story unfolds. Michael walks you through the steps in the life of a business. From infancy, through adolescence onto maturity. Showing how processes & procedures found in a franchised business such as McDonalds can be applied to any business.
Michael says the greatest people he’s known have a genuine fascination for the astonishing impact little things done exactly right consistently can have on the world. Both in business & in life.
This book is dedicated to this fascination & lays out why every successful business, needs procedures & processes for the seemingly insignificant, unimportant & mundane tasks for it to be successful.
I love the way Michael has used Sarah in a fictional business (All About Pies) as the central storyteller. It makes the book so easy to follow & you really do want to find out if Sarah succeeds.
If you’re planning to start your own small business or, if you’re like me & you’re always looking for ways to improve your existing organisation. I would recommend you read this book.
‘The E Myth Revisited’ gets a 👍 & ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
