At the centre of any industry you’ll find people who are the most well-known & highly valued. Influencers if you like…
You probably know who these people are in your industry. Their names come up in conversations & they seem to attract opportunities.
Industry influencers enjoy a special status in their chosen field, because they are well connected, well known, well regarded & others look to them for advice.
Influencers are always in high demand. Invited to be interviewed for industry articles and asked to speak at conferences & industry events. They don’t chase opportunities. Opportunities find them.
- Richard Branson is seen as an influencer for entrepreneurs
- Bill Gates was a tech influencer
- Mark Zuckerberg heavily influences social media
But they didn’t start out as influencers. It was only once they really understood their why, could they begin to tell their story to the world & become influencers in their chosen industry.
Richard Branson needs a why before he disrupts any industry. In 2015 he set a futuristic vision for Virgin Galactic, to bring the internet to every person in the world, through launching satellites.
Bill Gates was guided by a vision to put a computer on every office desktop and in every home.
Mark Zuckerberg has recently updated his vision to support Facebook’s future: ‘A privacy-focused messaging and social networking platform, where people can communicate securely’.
There’s plenty of people who’ve been in an industry for years, yet don’t influence it. But It’s not difficult to become an influencer, if you’re willing to break out of your comfort zone.
We’re becoming an influencer in the office technology solution industry, because we’re disrupting it, with monthly subscriptions, no upfront fees, fixed price guarantees & Simple Honest Service.
You can be an influencer in your industry too. First, work out why you do what you do. The thing that makes you different & why you get out of bed in a morning.
Then tell people about it, write articles about it, make videos about it, speak at conferences & events about it. Damn, even write a book about it.
…maybe it’s time for you to become an influencer in your industry too?
