Sports events may be cancelled, but tree planting in the great outdoors is very much alive…
On Saturday 14th March North West based ‘Plant a Tree’ campaign (made up of 8 North West based businesses) planted 200 trees.
This brings their Shawforth (near Rochdale) based forest up to 300 trees, and overtime, will contain a maximum of 2,500 trees.
Once this forest is full, they’re start creating a second forest in Water (Rossendale), were they have a forest capacity of 5,000 trees.
This is exciting times for the ‘Plant a Tree’ campaign, and they’re calling on the public, business and other organisations to them help reverse de-forestation and climate change.
Organiser Darren Turner said. “Our tree planting members are making a real difference. Each member of the campaign has committed to plant a tree for each new customer or agreement gained”.
“As an example, we’re planting a tree for famlies, businesses or other organisations who take any of our print technology solutions or internet-based office phone systems”.
“Together with getting their very own tree planted, customers receive a certificate showing where their tree was planted, which they can display to others”.
“I would ask any person, business or other organisations, who’d like to do their bit to help reverse de-forestation and climate change, to consider doing business with our members”.
Darren also explained how other organisations can become members too…
“It’s really simple. We fund the initial planting costs. As we’ve just done in this case. Each member then buys the trees in blocks of 10 at our cost price”.
“Once they have allocated each block of 10 trees to new customers or to new agreements, they buy another block of 10 trees and the cycle continues”.
“When we’ve used up the 200 trees we’ve just planted, we’ll then fund and plant another 200 (with the help of the members) and so on”.
“Doing it this way keeps it affordable for all involved”. Concluded Darren.
Scientists say planting billions of trees is by far the biggest & cheapest way to tackle the climate crisis. As trees grow, they absorb & store the carbon dioxide emissions that’s driving global heating.
It’s estimated a global planting program could remove 2/3 of all emissions put into the atmosphere by human activities. Figures described as “mind-blowing”.
