Find yourself doing all sorts of things to please others, rather than focusing on your goal?
It used to happen to me loads & being a nice person, I found it very difficult to say ‘No’ to people.
Until I found the power of saying ‘No’…
- Write down your long-term business goal
- Break it down into 90-day short-term goals (which will change over time)
- Create a weekly diary filled with activities to achieve your 90-day goals
- Write a daily check list of activities from your weekly diary
Then when someone asks you to attend a networking event or a training course, you owe it to yourself to check if it fits in with your scheduled daily activities & will help towards achieving your goal.
And if it doesn’t. Just say No. Explaining, at this moment the activity they are promoting is not part of your scheduled activities & won’t help you achieve your long-term goal.
Our long-term goal is. ‘To make office technology solutions affordable for all’.
And our short-term goals, my weekly diary & daily activities are geared to help the organisation achieve it. Any requests that don’t help towards the goal are refused with a polite explanation.
Mastering the power of saying ‘No’ isn’t easy!
…but has amazing results on the use of your time.
