I don’t really class myself as an entrepreneur. I suppose others might, even though I can only just spell it…
Providing people with cost & service certainty (office technology solutions) is what I love doing. And seeing them achieve a peace of mind state is utopia.
I love building new things. I love building a great team. I love building fantastic new products that help our customers solve their problems. And I love building our business in an honest & sustainable way.
Along the way I’ve taken much advice from many different people. Some of them likeable & some of them less so. But if the advice is sound and will help you, it doesn’t matter where it came from. Thank them & move on.
Yes, I’ve made many mistakes & will make more too. What is it they say ‘fail your way to success’. Edison failed 1,000 times before he invented the light bulb. But Edison is clear he did not fail. It just took 1,000 steps to success.
We can all learn something new everyday. And we should keep our eyes, ears & mind open to every situation. There are some very successful entrepreneurs in the world (some likeable & others less so). But that shouldn’t mean you don’t learn from the experience of a successful entrepreneur.
Here’s a list of my top favorite entrepreneur learnings (not all from my top favourite entrepreneurs)…
Elon Musk
“I always knew that there was a chance of failure in all my endeavors. But I felt that they were important enough that I had to try, even if I thought the probability of success was less than 50%.”
J K Rowling
“So why do I talk about the benefits of failure? Simply because failure meant a stripping away of the inessential. I stopped pretending to myself that I was anything other than what I was, and began to direct all my energy into finishing the only work that mattered to me. Had I really succeeded at anything else, I might never have found the determination to succeed in the one arena I believed I truly belonged.”
Simon Sinek
“Dream big. Start small. But most of all, start.”
Winston Churchill
“When your going through hell. Keep going.”
Steve Jobs
“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it.”
Mark Zuckerberg
“The biggest risk is not taking any risk. In a world that’s changing really quickly, the only strategy that is guaranteed to fail is not taking risks.”
Tony Robbins
“Your worth in the marketplace is based on your ability to add more value than anyone else. If you can find a way to do more for others in your company, more for the employees, more for the clients, than anybody else, your gifts will make room for you. But in order to do that, you’ve got to build skills.”
Maya Angelou
“You can only become truly accomplished at something you love. Don’t make money your goal. Instead pursue the things you love doing and then do them so well that people can’t take their eyes off of you.”
Richard Branson
“You don’t learn to walk by following rules. You learn by doing, and by falling over.”
Alan Sugar
“Having a vision is about using your imagination, it is about stretching your brain to think differently. It’s about training yourself to focus on where it is you want to go, what it is you want to achieve.”
Michelle Mone
“It doesn’t matter where you’re from or what education you have; if you have a big dream, you can do it.”
Jim Collins
“Get the right people in the right seats on your bus.”
James Dyson
“Everyone gets knocked back, no one rises smoothly to the top without hindrance. The ones who succeed are those who say, right, let’s give it another go.”
Sam Walmart
“Appreciate everything your team do for the business. If people believe in themselves, it’s amazing what they can accomplish.”
Dale Carnegie
“Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all.”
Henry Ford
“You can’t build a reputation on what you are going to do.”
