When Steven Bartlett first appeared on Dragons Den, I wanted to know his story…
Not the bit about him being a multi-millionaire at 27 after floating his company on the London Stock Exchange for a couple of hundred million dollars.
His real story. How did he become the person he is today? What drove him on to be so successful? Why did he do what he did?
His book ‘Happy Sexy Millionaire’ was a surprise though, and nothing like I’d expected.
Bartlett believed all he ever wanted was to be rich, and this alone would provide all the answers to having a fulfilled life.
But for him, it didn’t work out this way, as when the money came, he still wasn’t happy or fulfilled.
The years previously he’d focused all his time on building a great company, leaving no time for relationships or any real social life. In the end leaving him questioning what’s more important.
It’s an interesting read and the opposite of what I expected. Yes, Bartlett goes into some detail about the challenges he experienced growing up, but it’s no autobiography.
The book questions the way he lived his life, with Bartlett suggesting he got most stuff wrong, detailing the things which he believes would have made him a better person during this time.
Bartlett is said to be a deep thinker, which comes across in the way he’s approached this subject, and it’s left me with some unanswered questions about how I’m living my own life.
‘Happy Sexy Millionaire’ gets a thumbs up with four stars.
