Children test activities until they find 1 or 2, they’re good at & really enjoy…
I remember traipsing round the clubs with our kids when they we’re young. Trying out this & that. Football, rugby, karate, swimming, drama & dancing.
The only 1 they all enjoyed & has stuck is Karate. Our 2 boys are black belts & even our 9-year old daughter is well on the way with a blue belt.
The boys were pretty good at rugby. They all excelled at swimming & Scarlett tried a few different dance clubs. Eventually giving up because they got bored & weren’t enjoying them anymore.
It’s a bit like that when you start off in business. You try & do many things. Taking things on that really aren’t your bag. Because you feel it’s the only way you can grow quickly.
At the time. You don’t realise the reverse is true. Taking on things outside of your specialism ties up resources & makes life less joyful. Making it near impossible to grow the business as you’d like.
We can learn a lot from our children. Ours learnt quickly to focus on the activity they’re good at & enjoyed. 2 black belts, another on the way & lots of awards shows they made the right choice.
In business focusing on the things that form your specialism (usually the things you enjoy the most). Will create your niche & allow word of your abilities to spread. Which in turn will fuel your growth.

Maybe it’s time for you to strip out the resource sapping extra activities too & become well known for your niche specialism?
