Some people say you should surround yourself with like-minded people…
I disagree. For me it’s too comfortable. All you do is agree with each other & never question the status quo or seek improvement.
Our team is made up of people who trust one another enough to argue effectively about an issue, knowingly afterwards they’ll be no collateral damage.
We need a team who have no fear of conflict & are willing to question something if it doesn’t seem right or they believe they have a way to improve things further.
Just the other day I suggested something that we could do to improve our small organisation print service (MY Print Service).
Two of our team members immediately pushed back with ideas much better than mine.
We don’t want a team that holds back their opinions & honest concerns. We’d trade harmony any day for a team willing to argue effectively without fear of reprisal.
As my good friend Ray Stasieczko would say…
“Status Quo is the killer of all that will be invented”
…so, don’t get stuck in the status quo. Instead. Build a team willing to challenge it.
